Following the monsoon rains that have caused devastating flooding in Pakistan, taken the lives of more than 1500 people, displaced 20 million and destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes, CERN Management and the Staff Association are organizing a collection to help the victims of what UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, has described as a disaster worse than any he has witnessed before.
The money collected will be transferred equally to Caritas (www.caritas.ch) and to the Swiss Labour Assistance (www.sah.ch) guaranteeing proper use of the funds.
From today you can pay your donations into a special UBS account, marking “Pakistan flooding” as the reason for payment.

Mr Ban went on to say that he had witnessed “so many people, in so many places, in so much need,” and that “the flood waves must be matched with waves of global support.” We are counting on the generosity of the CERN community to add to those waves of support by giving generously to this appeal for aid for the Pakistani people at this very difficult time.

Suite aux pluies torrentielles de la mousson à l'origine des inondations dévastatrices au Pakistan, qui ont coûté la vie à plus de 1 500 personnes, déplacé 20 millions d’individus et détruit des centaines de milliers d’habitations, la Direction du CERN et l’Association du personnel organisent une collecte pour venir en aide aux victimes d’un désastre, qualifié par le Secrétaire général de l’ONU, Ban Ki-moon, de la pire catastrophe qu’il ait jamais connue.
L’argent collecté sera versé pour moitié à Caritas (www.caritas.ch) et pour moitié à l’Oeuvre suisse d’entraide ouvrière (www.sah.ch), ce qui garantira une utilisation correcte des fonds.
