Austria to remain a CERN Member State
Yesterday afternoon, Austrian Federal Chancellor Werner Faymann announced that Austria will not be leaving CERN. I am very pleased that Austria has taken this decision, and convinced that it is the right one not only for Austrian science, but also for European science. In taking this step, Chancellor Faymann is reaffirming Austria's commitment to European research, and ensuring that the Austrian particle physics community can celebrate the 50th anniversary of Austrian accession to CERN, safe in the knowledge that Austria will play a full part in reaping the rewards of LHC physics.
Please note that the Delegates to the CERN Council were informed this morning of this decision by the Council secretariat. Official confirmation of Austria’s decision should be received this afternoon.

L'Autriche demeure un Etat membre du CERN
Le Chancelier fédéral autrichien, Werner Faymann, a annoncé hier après-midi que l’Autriche restera membre du CERN. Je me félicite de cette décision qui, j’en ai la conviction, est la bonne non seulement pour la science en Autriche, mais aussi pour la science en Europe. Par cette décision, le Chancelier Werner Faymann réaffirme l’engagement de l’Autriche envers la recherche européenne. Ainsi, les physiciens des particules autrichiens pourront célébrer le cinquantenaire de l’adhésion de leur pays au CERN dans la sérénité, en sachant que l'Autriche récoltera pleinement les fruits des investissements consacrés à la physique du LHC.
Nous vous prions de prendre note que le Secrétariat du Conseil a informé les délégués au Conseil du CERN de la décision de l’Autriche ce matin. La confirmation officielle de cette décision devrait nous parvenir dans l’après-midi.
